Question by PeachTree: What happens when you go to court and plea guilty to a DUI without a lawyer?

Some people say not to plea guilty the first time in court but I don’t see a point in going back to court again when your really proven guilty with failing the breath test.

Actually, it’s about the same difference with a lawyer as without should you be talking first offense. If, on the other hand, you are looking to plea on a repeat offense, my advice would be to definitely seek a lawyer. The judges throw the book at you on repeat DUI — he/she wants to look tough to re-elected. The jails are overcrowded and process time 3-for-1 day and sometimes 10-for-1 when the sentence is over 13 years. That is, on the 3-strikes rule and that includes DUI, you can get 15 years to life, but the jails don’t have room.

Question by David R: What is your perspective, advice on DUI felonies? And getting a job?I need help.?
Hi Mr President.
David from Schaumburg ,IL
I have lived without a job for years now because of my past decisions. In 2004 I had received 3 dui’s cause I was being irresponsible. Now,I am 33,having a child, and I cannot find a job because of some ridiculous choices I made.My past is behind me now.I’m suffering for it presently.I am very responsible, optimistic, and pursuing more schooling. But the flip side to this is that I cannot get a job.
How would you go about fixing this situation and what is your advice?

David:

This is called “actions have consequences.” Sorry, I can’t help you. You have to live with the consequences of your bad choices. This is only fair.

Yours very Truly,

The President

PS–you might want to look into a vasectomy. Having children in your circumstance is just another poor decision. Federal funds are available for this.
