 Congratulations! Mrs. Garay conducted the Westland Middle School Orchestra during the Adjudication at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School on March 29, 2011. They scored “1″ the highest rating from all three judges for their performances. They scored a “2″ with the sight reading judge who offers constructive suggestions. The pieces performed are: Scarborough Fair, An English Folksong, Finale from Beethoven’s Symphony #5, and Burst, an unpublished piece.
Adjudication is a finding by a juvenile court that a child committed a delinquent act. Adjudication is generally not considered a conviction for a crime, as that term is usually used on employment applications, and adjudication will not deprive the juvenile of civil rights, such as the right to vote. |

Practically every day on my daily drive, I see this woman, about 30, walking down the sidewalk, presumably to work, mostly with her head down, counting the cracks in the sidewalk. It’s the can-kicking pace of a defeated person. Sometimes we make eye-contact. She’s pretty; blue eyes, sandy hair. But she has some of the signs of, perhaps, alcohol abuse, with puffiness under her eyes and some ruddiness. I assume that she got a DWI at one point, and that’s why she has to walk to work. I sometimes think of pulling over to make conversation with her. I guess I’ve always been a sucker for lost causes. Then a night like last night comes along. I was looking out the window toward what used to be my family house (it’s 75 yards away) and saw my soon-to-be-ex lying on the lawn. Wondering what the heck happened (she is a defense attorney who just allegedly bungled a federal case involving some serious criminals), I ran over. It turned out she was just drunk (not unusual with her lately). I helped my wife up and into her house. “I lost! I lost everything!” she kept crying. I got her into an oversized T-shirt, trying hard not to look at her nudity, and put her on the sofa with an old Power Rangers blanket and a bucket next to her. “Don’t you want to stay?” she said. “I miss you.” “You know I can’t,” I told her and left, even though part of me wanted to. It was horrible hearing her sob as I left, and my heart, maybe for the first time ever, ached. Are you a sucker for a man/woman in need? Best answer: Answer by Beatngu Since then, I try and help those in need… but I do have my limits. I’ve been taken advantage of a few times too many times. So, I always have to question now when I help people. What do you think? Answer below! |
